I became a member of the Ohio Physical Therapy Network, OPTN, presently MidAmerica Rehabilitation Network, MARN, in 2012 practices were frustrated with dealing with managed care companies and decreasing reimbursement. We wanted to form a network. I attended a training that OPTN sponsored in Columbus where they brought in a national expert on managed care. At that meeting I spoke to Bob Swinehart, then Executive Director, about joining their network. He spoke to the board, who voted to accept WV practices. I recommended to my fellow WV practice owners that we not reinvent the wheel, but join forces with OPTN. It has been a valuable addition to all of our businesses. We have learned that multiple heads are better than one. Presently under Berni Willis’s leadership, we know that MARN always has our back. It has been empowering to associate with a group of such capable practice owners. I would hate to be in business in these times without MARN’s support.

Insurance used to plan changes once every 5 years or so and would give plenty of time and information as to when and why. Now it can be several times a year per provider with little or no real time or reason for the change. Without Berni staying on top of the information and helping us through the mandatory immediate changes we would never keep up. Which would mean loss or decrease in payments. It is overwhelming and depression to keep up with the amount of work and things needing done to keep receiving payments. Without Berni’s encouraging and detailed info I would feel Iike I was losing the battles. I have worked in outpatient physical therapy for over 25 years and I would just give up if it wasn’t for MARN/Berni’s insight. Thank you for the bottom of my heart!!!

We have always said that we would not have survived and prospered as a small, independent, private practice if it weren’t for our membership and involvement in OPTN and now MARN. The annual meetings are something we look forward to as they are packed with information, allow for brainstorming and strategy sharing between facilities, and usually have a quality presenter. We are just getting started with the Peer to Peer program and are super excited about the potential that the Peer to Peer program has to offer. We would also like to mention how wonderful it is to have Berni available as a resource. She is actively involved with the APTA allowing us to have up-to-date and current information.
